Not even sure I want an answer because I think I know.
I'll also state this to be fair, I didn't vote for Obama. I didn't vote at all, actually. I took a backseat to the craze and honestly for the life of me, couldn't decide. I could NOT pick either candidate. I didn't like either one of them. So, with that said to a few other people in the past year and a half, people give me the stink eye at times and I've even heard a "well how dare you have an opinion then".
And in a way, they're kind of right.
How dare I have an opinion about someone and something that I didn't vote for.
But now things are getting tricky because none of us actually voted for this health bill to be passed. No one asked US what we wanted and no politician, including the president, followed through with the original agenda- the agenda that put the president in office in the first place. Many of my friends are feeling cheated and used. I agree. I kind of feel strange about it because I actually started to like Obama..well, last year. I would always defend him against the naysayers and state, "well, would you want his job??"
And now, this health bill is going to affect our family dramatically. And I'm scared.
Currently, we are very VERY lucky to still have Medicaid for the children and us parents. Our Medicaid (shhhh!!) should probably have been cancelled once Rick began working in December but I won't say anything if you don't. I need that surgery coming up and I can't pay for it,..so uhhh... yeah.
But here is where I am terrified.. there is eventually (whether it be 4 or 5 years from now) going to be a shortage in doctors, nurses, and surgeons which then in turn creates a much longer wait time for your appointments. I mean let's be real here, I have to schedule Natalie's heart checkups at least 3 months in advance for her to get seen by her primary doctor- the cardiac doctor that knows her best (which, let's face it, is always the safer bet). And then soon it's going to be a much much longer wait. For any person- child, adult doesn't matter- this is going to create a huge problem in getting the proper care within a proper amount of time. Like I told one friend all dramatically, this is going to be a matter of life and death.
Heart checkups, for example, are very crucial to the development and good health of a CHDer. Without them, well..I'm afraid to say.
What about someone waiting for a prognosis for cancer? for aids?? for autism or anything that requires something other than a doctor just writing you a prescription for narcotics? Here ya go Mr.Smith, take some Oxycontin and you'll be just fine! Now have a large tumor growing out of your head? oh sorry for that 1 year wait. Actually, Mr.Smith would be very lucky to get even an apology.
And let's say that the shortage of doctors doesn't occur, a very surprising outcome, then what happens to the type of care that people receive? I hate to say this, but it's all going to go the shitter. Just ask anyone from Canada or England.

Now the idea of this sounds great and if it worked and was affordable, amen. But let's face it, with no cap on what these insurance companies can charge for services, is this going to help? Why are two Motrin pills costing people $400 in the ER??
I'm the last person to be pessimistic about anything, but this doesn't have me convinced. And I still don't know what the impact would be for life insurance, because to date, Natalie can never purchase a life insurance policy because she is "high risk". And will it even be affordable?
And what is up with the fine for not having health insurance?? Seriously?? You will actually be penalized for making the choice to opt out of health insurance. What's next? if you cross the street and get hit by a bus you have to pay that bus company money because it happened??? What exactly does the government want to insure? I'm very confused with this.
I don't think this bill was really thought through. I don't even think the president himself understands everything in this bill. So at least then I'm not the only one confused.
This whole thing is a mess...

I agree with you completely. I feel that the law to have health insurance is pure bullshit. Just because you may NOT have pre-existing conditions doesn't mean that you're not crazy.. So does that mean that those people who jump off of hospital parking garages or even the gathersburg bridge are what my tax dollars are going to have to cover?
Trust me, I feel for those who have pre-existing conditions, especially me being one of them, BUT, why should those who have pre-existing conditions have to pay 80-90% of their visit because of the issue they had NO control over?
I am no die hard democrat, but I liked to say that I was a democrat prior to all of this crap. We had a shitty president with Bush in office, and to me, I blamed it on him being a republican. But now I sit here and try to remember why it is that a democrat is ANY different than a republican. Because now, it's impossible to really see the differences between the two. I think the process is as simple as this:
1) Come up with a "great idea"
2) Make sure there are more democrats in seats, so we can manipulate the republicans into thinking also that it's a good idea
3) Make up a document in crayon and hope they think it's cute
4) Vote YES on it, and piss everyone who didn't get listened to, off!
5) Lie and say changed will be done, but in pencil so it can be erased right before it's signed for legislation.
Trust me, I feel that everyone American should be ABLE to have health insurance, BUT I don't feel it should be something we get fined for not having. We have rights don't we? Well, I guess it's better stated as "We HAD rights".
I'm totally with you on this one. I'm all about everyone having access to healthcare, but this is NOT the way to do it. And that sneaky little vote last night, that only passed by EIGHT VOTES...that's just wrong. AND NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE! And you're right, not one person asked me for my vote... Can only pray this is all God's will and his master plan is just too complex for me to understand.

Dawn, Don't buy into the "Tea Bagger's propoganda. Anyone with a pre existing medical condition cannot be denied coverage. There is so much misinformation out there about this Health Care Bill, one has to really research to separate facts from BS. Where is the bitching & moaning (from the Republicans), about (lying) Bush getting us in a war we had no business being in? How many thousands of soldiers gave their lives thinking they were perserving our freedom, when in reality, they are protecting Iraq? How many trillions of dollars have been spent on this war? Money that US citizens need? Sorry for the rant, but between Fox News, and a host of outright lies, half truths, and scare tatics (death panels...really?), its disgusting how low people will sink, instead of coming up with an alternate health plan.
